Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia Deepen Coordination at El-Alamein Summit

EL-ALAMEIN, Egypt — October 4, 2026: The leaders of Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia concluded a quadrilateral summit in New El-Alamein on Sunday with a joint declaration focused on regional stability, sovereignty and closer political and economic coordination.

The meeting brought together Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

The four leaders stressed that respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference should remain the foundation of relations in the region. They also called for peaceful political solutions to ongoing conflicts and stronger support for national institutions.

On Sudan, the leaders reaffirmed their support for the country’s unity and state institutions, rejected the creation of parallel authorities and called for a political process led and owned by Sudanese themselves.

They also backed Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, rejected recognition of Somaliland and called for stronger international support for Somalia’s fight against terrorism, including predictable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia.

The declaration also placed particular emphasis on the Red Sea, stating that its governance should remain the responsibility of the countries bordering it. On Nile waters, the leaders called for respect for international law, consultation and cooperation, while rejecting unilateral measures that could harm downstream states.

Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia also agreed to establish a follow-up mechanism and continue holding consultations when needed, signaling an effort to turn the summit into a more regular framework for coordination on regional security, trade and economic cooperation.
