BIO OF SPEAKERS
Meron Semedar, MA, MPA
Meron Semedar is an educator, activist and community organizer. Meron holds a South African degree in Civil Engineering and M.A. in International Studies from the University of San Francisco. Today he is a student of Masters in Public Affairs at the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Meron is also the Scholars Advisor at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UC Berkeley.

Bereket Zemuy, MA

Bereket holds a Diploma in Tourism and Hotel Management from Halhale College of Business and Economics in Eritrea. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Adigrat University in Ethiopia. Currently he is a Master’s Student in Planning and Policies, for the City, Environment and Landscape (Urban Planning) Department of Architecture, Design and Urbanistic at the University of Sassari in Italy.

Luwam Mebrahtu, MA

Luwam holds a Diploma in Fine Arts from the College of Arts and Social Sciences in Adikeih, Eritrea. She also has a BA Degree in Sociology and social Work from the college of arts and social work in Eritrea. Currently she is a 2nd year Student in Human right and multi-level governance at the University of Padova in Italy.

Dr. Ambesajir Habtemichael, MD

Dr. Ambesajir holds a Medical Doctorate from Orotta School of Medicine in Eritrea. After graduation he has served as a medical doctor in different Hospitals in Eritrea until late 2015. Dr. Ambesajir also worked in a private clinic in Sudan for a year and half, where the majority of patients where Eritrean refugees. Lastly, after setting his foot in the Netherlands, he has worked in different health sectors of the Netherlands ranging from ward physician in hospitals up to the country’s main institution of Centre of disease prevention & research situated in the Capital. As a result of his dream to specialize in his host country, in 2022 after series of exam & interviews he has been accepted to the 4 years resident program Infectious illness prevention, TB as the main focus. Thus, currently he is busy with the first year of his resident program in the capital city.

Hiab Gebreselassie, MA – Moderator

Hiab holds BA in TV/Radio Broadcasting from Lewis University and MA in Educational Leadership from University of St. Thomas. As a former member of De La Salle Brothers, he worked as a teacher in Eritrea and as a school principal in Ethiopia. In the US, he
has been working mostly in the financial services, specifically in remittance and Fintech for over 16 years. Hiab is also a husband and a father to three kids.
